Forgiveness as a Tool for Inner Peace

Holding onto negative emotions damages YOU more than anyone else.
But, what can you do when someone has hurt you in some way and you finally get to the point where you're ready to let it go… but you just can’t seem to do it.
First, you might want to ask yourself…..

Is it more important for me to be ‘RIGHT’? Or is it more important for me to feel calm, at peace and happy?

You may be surprised at the answer that comes up... for some it really is more important to be ‘right’… if so, you might ask, what is it about being right that is so important to me?

I think deep down we all want to feel at peace and happy!

Well, here is something you can EASILY do to shift anger and hurt and you don’t even have to talk to the ‘other’.

It is called Ho’oponopono from the ancient spiritual Huna tradition of Hawai’i and it REALLY DOES WORK! Ho’o means to make and pono means right or correct. Ho’oponopono can be seen as compassion in action.

“Ho’oponopono is the Hawaiian ritual of forgiveness.
It proceeds from an understanding of the unity of everything in the world, which is true even though we feel ourselves to be separate. Because of this unity or oneness, nothing can happen in our own world without creating resonance in the observer. It follows that we can only influence problems in the external world if we heal the corresponding inner resonance.”
…“Because everything influences everything else, I contribute to harmony if I discover my share in disharmony and enter instead into the healing process.”
from Ho’oponopono The Hawaiian forgiveness ritual as the key to your life’s fulfillment by Ulrich E. Dupree

There is a wonderful true story about Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len who cured a ward of criminally insane patients at Hawaii State Prison Hospital and never met with any of them except socially now and again.

First, one has to accept the premise that there is only one being here and we are all ‘it’. There is no ME vrs YOU. Everything is connected and one thing, playing out as ‘separate individuals’. Even if you are not sure about this, hold the premise while you do this little process.

So, what Dr. Len did, was to sit in his office with his patients charts and as he focused on each person he said “ I am sorry. Please forgive me. I love you. Thank you.” Over and over. Day after day.

That’s it. In 1 1/2 years the entire atmosphere of the prison hospital and the staff was transformed and all of the patients on the ward, except 2, were cured in four years. The hospital was finally closed!

As Dr. Len was focusing on a patient, he looked within and pondered how he had created that persons mental illness (remember all is ONE). He healed that part of HIMSELF by sending love to that person and their illness and taking responsibility for all that he perceived needed healing. There is no boundary between the perceived you and the perceived me. It is all an illusion.

This little process is deceivingly powerful and so easy to do. There is such freedom in letting go!

If you are interested in learning more about this simple process, Mr. Ulrich Dupree has two books that flesh it out beautifully.
