When Dr. Benton was working in a group practice she realized there must be more to medicine as she felt she was just doling out pills for symptoms. So in 2013 she became board certified in Holistic and Integrative Medicine. For her specialty under the holistic umbrella, she started her functional medicine path and became certified in Functional Medicine. Functional medicine searches for the root cause of disease and determines a solution by looking at all the systems in a person using the latest in science.
