Is Glyphosate Wrecking our Health?!!... (Blog Post)

Instead of publishing this article on janeanskitchen.com I am posting here as I will be consolidating janeanskitchen with realjanean.... everything in one place!

By now everyone knows something about GMO foods. Not a lot has been said about Glyphosate, the pesticide linked to GMO seeds and crops, until recently. This has been bothering me for some time because in my opinion we should be very concerned about glyphosate and how it impacts our health and the health of our soils. Finally, I have been seeing for the past 6 months or so, more and more articles concerning glyphosate and it’s link to cancer and how badly it messes up our gut micro biome - affecting every aspect of our health - mental and physical.
The problem is that glyphosate isn't just used on GMO crops… it is sprayed on non organic wheat before it is harvested!
Sooooo most non organic loaves of bread, bagels, english muffins, tortillas, pie crusts etc etc that you are eating have glyphosate residues!!!

The following info is from ECOWATCH Why is Glyphosate sprayed on crops right before harvest?

The pre-harvest use of glyphosate allows farmers to harvest crops as much as two weeks earlier than they normally would, an advantage in northern, colder regions.

Along with wheat and oats, glyphosate is used to desiccate (dry) a wide range of other crops including lentils, peas, non-GMO soybeans, corn, flax, rye, triticale, buckwheat, millet, canola, sugar beets and potatoes. Sunflowers may also be treated pre-harvest with glyphosate, according to the National Sunflower Association.

Residues of glyphosate have been found in wheat flour. Last year, Ransom reported to the U.S. Wheat Quality Council that tests on flour samples from the U.S. and Canada found that all had traces of glyphosate.

Wiebe believes the use of glyphosate on wheat may be connected to the rise in celiac disease. “We've seen an explosion of gluten intolerance," he said. “What's really going on?"

According to Tom Ehrhardt, co-owner of Minnesota-based Albert Lea Seeds, sourcing grains not desiccated with glyphosate prior to harvest is a challenge.

“I have talked with millers of conventionally produced grain and they all agree it's very difficult to source oats, wheat, flax and triticale, which have not been sprayed with glyphosate prior to harvest," he said. “It's a 'don't ask, don't tell policy' in the industry."
According to a wheat farmer in Saskatchewan, desiccating wheat with glyphosate is commonplace in his region. “I think every non-organic farmer in Saskatchewan uses glyphosate on most of their wheat acres every year," the farmer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said.

Monsanto has steadfastly claimed that Roundup is harmless to animals and humans because the mechanism of action it uses (which allows it to kill weeds), called the shikimate pathway, is absent in all animals. However, the shikimate pathway IS present in bacteria, and that’s the key to understanding how it causes such widespread systemic harm in both humans and animals.

The bacteria in your body outnumber your cells by 10 to one. For every cell in your body, you have 10 microbes of various kinds, and all of them have the shikimate pathway, so they will all respond to the presence of glyphosate!

Glyphosate causes extreme disruption of the microbe’s function and lifecycle. What’s worse, glyphosate preferentially affects beneficial bacteria, allowing pathogens to overgrow and take over, including the highly toxic Clostridium botulinum.

Dr Mercola just put out a new article that discusses the state of the soil in the fields where glyphosate has been used on a yearly basis…. in 10 years…. brown and DEAD.

I find this deeply concerning as it is becoming harder and harder to avoid. And obviously buying a non-GMO product does not guarantee that it is free of Glyphosate.

I am on the search for someone who is knowledgeable on the subject to interview!
