March 11, 2018 Blog/Newsletter... A Winter Break

Published by: janean strong on 03-11-2018

I can finally write about something other than cold weather. I have taken a little winter break with my sister in Baja…. 'the arm of Mexico' . The temps were in the 70’s the first week and this week in the 80’s. Other than a flat tire on my rental (and they gave me a new car), it has been a very relaxing time… walking on the beach… Little interesting adventures driving around the area. Julie is watercoloring and I am crocheting a top. We have a very sweet cat that visits us everyday. In my experience, it is common in Mexico for there to be many ‘community’ cats and dogs.

We lucked out with a very nice Airbnb… actually I used VRBO… in a quiet community close to the ocean…. I don’t need my white noise generator at night since I can listen to the surf. My favorite night sounds are all water… surf, creek, waterfall, rain.

This is the first time in 7 winters that I have been able to get away for a break.
I always meet such lovely people when I come to Mexico, everyone is gracious and nice, especially when you make an effort to speak in Spanish, even if it is lousy… my favorite areas are Baja and the Yucatan. The vegetation is scrubby but the beaches and water are wonderful. In Baja, on the ocean side, the beaches are long and great for walking. Cerritos Beach, where we are staying, is one of the few places that you can swim…. I believe it’s because of the undertow. Last couple of days have been windy so lots of surfers have been here taking advantage of big beautiful waves… It is fun to watch them.
I was able to schedule an hour in a float tank.. it has been awhile since I have been in one… I forgot how relaxing and rejuvenating it is. The owner, Caitlin Aguero is a delightful young lady with many talents and I interviewed her for the podcast. Good I brought my recorder… just in case. Meeting her also led to more very interesting adventures.

The food is simple and delish….. fish tacos, chile rellenos, thin crust pizza and salads. Lots of organic produce in the area makes it easy to cook yummy meals with lots of veggies. I tried to bring down a jar of Trader Joes Almond Butter…my favorite brand. It was in my carry on ( I am very proud of myself for packing so lightly and not checking any bags) and it got confiscated… I thought it was just liquids over 4 ounces that were 'verboten', but I was told that ‘smushy' counts and if it was frozen or in a checked bag it would have gone through. Lesson learned!
We cut open a pineapple that was personally picked for us… I let it sit for a few days to make sure it would be ripe as it was pretty hard… OMG! the sweetest tastiest ever.. it tasted a bit like a Pina Colada! The papaya, strawberries, oranges, pomegranates picked off the tree. Our morning smoothie tastes so different with a fresh local banana. YUMMY!

Well, I am ready to go home… just wish it wasn’t to snow!

My latest Podcast conversation is with Kate Houston, Fabulous and Fearless over 40. Kate is a librarian and known in the Burning Man crowd as the ‘Rock Star Librarian’ as her gift to the community she catalogs the music for each festival.
Kate speaks frankly about the choices she has made in relationships and the work she has done to make healthier choices for herself. She talks about co-dependence, attachment styles and what it takes to build self trust and start dating again.
She uses her experiences and knowledge to coach women over 40 who want to get back into the dating game and find a healthy relationship.
Kate also explains Attachment Theory and how you can use this knowledge to help understand why you seek out certain types of relationships and how you can choose differently if you desire.

For archived Conversations I have chosen:

1. Rae Chois, Certified Life and business Coach and Instructor (one of my excellent teachers). Our topic is Overcoming Stuckness in Your Life.
Do you feel like you would like a change in your life but don't feel you have any choices? Then this is the Episode for you! This is Part 1 of a 2 part series. Rae has transformed her life from a dreadful spiral “below the line” to a thrilling place of gratitude and bliss that she calls her “above the line ~ state of mind”. Get ready to take notes. There is a lot of great useful information here!

2. Dr. Matthew Flory is a Functional Medicine Doctor who specializes in uncovering the root causes of biological imbalances. The Role of Inflammation in Chronic Conditions. Part 2 of our 3 part series on Healing Chronic Conditions. Did you know that 9 out of 10 chronic conditions are caused by inflammation? That means that if you or someone you know has a chronic condition it more than likely has inflammation as the root cause!
The plethora of drugs that people are taking for chronic conditions are not healing the condition, they are not correcting the underlying causes.... mostly they are relieving symptoms which is a bandaid approach to your health... so most likely you will have to take those medications the rest of your life. Wouldn't you rather work towards health and healing your body/mind?!!

Who do you know that can benefit from these podcast conversations? Please share the love far and wide by forwarding this email to friends and family.
This is my gift and service and your help in getting the word out is very much appreciated!
